Catalogue of Works

This work was begun during my three month residency in Haldenstein in Switzerland. During that time I had the opportunity not normally afforded me by real life, of messing about and playing with materials, ideas and techniques. I cut rubber stamps which I then printed with watercolour, experimented with wax resists, messed about with watercolour masking fluid. I wanted to capture a sense of place, and of things that can't be put into words, to work more intuitively and emotionally than the way I make cartoons.

The resulting work was initially exhibited in a one day exhibition in our studio in Haldenstein. On my return to Australia, I was offered an exhibition at Helen Maxwell Gallery based on the work I had done, so I continued working in my hybrid Swiss method and produced enough work for a larger exhibition. What is on display here is Skizzen, held from 30 March to 28 April 2007 at Helen Maxwell Gallery in Canberra.
